Is there any way to delete/opt out of the #Lanyrd page in my name, but which I did not ask for?

  2. @agpublic drop me an email at support@lanyrd.com and I'll sort that out for you

  3. Plus, #Lanyrd so focused on the tech-conference universe that it missed ~60% of my speaking. Didn't like the skewed picture that resulted.

  4. @agpublic if you sign in to Lanyrd with Twitter you can add events/fix inaccuracies yourself - most of our information is added by speakers

@agpublic we're moving beyond tech now - we have http://lanyrd.com/topics/urban-design and http://lanyrd.com/topics/genealogy for example

  5. @simonw (a) That would lend the service the appearance of my imprimatur, which I don't care to extend; (b) who has the time?

@simonw Better to solve all these hassles now by simply nullifying the page. Saves me time and energy.

@simonw Point is, #Lanyrd has already caused me headaches — admittedly minor ones, but still: more than it should've.

@simonw It violates the most basic principles of social software design, e.g. *don't start a profile page for someone who hasn't joined*.

@simonw ...and therefore, I simply don't want my name appearing there.

  8. @tomcoates @jdunck @simonw Terrible practice forcing someone to maintain a presence they haven't asked for.

@tomcoates @jdunck @simonw ...and to suggest they should pay for the privilege is obscene.

  9. @agpublic I don't agree here, actually - it's just like IMDB or Wikipedia. You don't have to maintain it at all.

@agpublic It's just a list of conferences you've been at, collated by the public.

@agpublic Well, worth bearing in mind that no one at @lanyrd has suggested that...

  10. @tomcoates @jdunck @simonw Please rethink your approach to this. It violates every principle Tom's previously elaborated.

  11. @agpublic I do agree that it should make it clearer that you didn't create the page and that you can edit it - but otherwise I think it's ok

@agpublic I had lots of discussions with Simon and Natalie about this and we debated it at length. I think it's pretty honourable, actually

@agpublic We're public figures if we stand up and talk, and it's pretty reasonable to me for people to collate those talks.

@agpublic If there is an issue, it's design - just to make sure people understand that it's not necessarily you maintaining the page.

  12. @tomcoates @agpublic @simonw It's a design issue. The site should differentiate speaker-created info from audience-created info.

@agpublic I don't want you to think that I'm not taking this seriously though. I know @simonw and @Natbat would hate to alienate speakers.
