@beep curious about how you're handling people who want to switch from mobile to desktop and vice versa with RWD?

  2. @grigs We’ve found it’s possible to create a toggle, usually via JS. (like “activating” all the queries to create “desktop” mode)

@grigs 2. That said, we found the need for a toggle’s reduced when the user’s presented with the same functionality in both contexts.

@grigs So yeah, I’d say if a responsive approach is appropriate, and if it’s executed well, a toggle isn’t necessarily needed. YMMV, ’course

  3. @beep i think the same is true of separate sites as well. when the full functionality is present, it is less of an issue.

@beep I've been wondering if it is a trust issue for users (and maybe developers as well). Comfort that desktop is avail if needed.

  5. @grigs that seems likely now; hopefully those trust issues will disappear as mobile ux becomes less about... displaying less. cc/ @beep

  6. @scottjehl that's where i ended up as well. i don't feel comfortable with other sites not giving me the option yet. :-) /cc @beep

  7. @grigs that we both rely on "view desktop site" links tells me that mobile-optimized content regularly falls short of users' needs /cc @beep

  8. Thought of the day: we'll know the mobile web is "ready" when links to the desktop version are understood to be unnecessary.

  9. @grigs Is it about the versions of sites, or the intents of users? Or just training wheels, maybe.

  10. @jamespearce training wheels is a good analogy for what i've been thinking.

  11. @grigs Been thinking about that a lot lately. I think the distrust stems from inaccurate assumptions of the users intent.

@grigs With mobile browsing becoming more common & devices more capable, we need to challenge the traditional view of mobile internet usage.

  12. . @grigs Forming the opinion that differentiating between mobile/desktop will eventually be irrelevant 'cause the site's contextually right.
