Next semester I’ve resolved to only teach chamber music by female composers. What are your favorites I can look into? I’ve ordered Florence Price’s Five Folksongs in Counterpoint and Caroline Shaw’s Valencia so far.

  2. I like Japanese composer Yoko Kanno's work. Some of it is chamber music, such as Memory of Fanelia from Escaflowne youtube.com/watch?v=mkyE4D…

  4. If you want to expand into WOC as well, Chen Yi has a ton of chamber music you could check out. Maybe also check out some of Tania Leon's chamber music?

  6. You didn't mention the instrumentation, but if it's for any ensemble, one of my favourites is: Madeleine Dring: Trio for flute, oboe, piano. The second movement is one of my favourite movements of any chamber music work. She wrote various other chamber music pieces as well.

@KarenALonsdale We have the ability to shift players quite a bit, as the program has students on all sorts of instruments. I’ve mostly worked with string quartets but am open to anything if it’s at a level where my students can be successful!

  8. Yes! It’s going to take a lot more time, but we have plans to work with the various instrumental orgs and other partners to find interested folks who would be willing to help build such a database. 😊

  10. One of my favourite female composers is Katherine Hoover. Unfortunately I don't know her works with flute and strings, but worth checking out this list:
