The massacre has left 10 dead (including the suspected killer). No known motive so far. No links to ISIS, or right wing, or refugees.

The suspect was born and raised in Munich, not too far from the attack site. Suffered from depression, was obsessed with mass shootings.

What I find most tragic as more details are revealed is that he was 18 years old. A few months ago he was a minor. A legal child.

It's starting to look like this attack has more to do with the suspected shooters psychological state. No ideological links.

Given that there are no ideological links and no political motive = not terrorism. Neither Islamist-inspired nor right wing-inspired.

The Munich shooting was, according to these details, not an act of terrorism. It wasn't even a hate crime.

To the dead it doesn't make a difference what the motivation was. But for everyone else trying to make sense of this, it does.

Munich police reacted according to a worst case scenario, and treated it as a terrorist attack.

Yesterday, given everything, we thought this is terrorism, either ISIS or right-wingers; but it looks like it's neither

But it's jarring enough that the Munich police acted as if it was terrorism, and we reacted as if it was terrorism.

Clearly, to the entire world, an actual terror attack in Germany, be it ISIS-inspired or right wing-inspired, is not unanticipated.

Pause to think what this means. We are living in waiting for the next terrible string of news about the next act of mass violence.
