    4) Finally grammar schools are "anti-choice". Schools choose pupils. Parents whose children don't pass the 11+ are left stranded.

    Why do grammars remain popular despite the weight of evidence? Partly because many people have an v. outdated view of comprehensives.

    And partly because of availability bias. One working class child "saved" by a grammar is more visible than a dozen whose potential was lost.
