this whole death of cyberflanerie business fails to realize the 1880s communications explosion was thanks to haussmann's infrastructure.
it's all an old set of arguments and paradigms. it's trite and annoying. i wish i hadn't read the damn article, which is why i'd avoided it.
i'm not a fan of what haussmann did, but without him: no expansive telegraph, post, journal delivery, savings bank… or PNEUMATIC TUBES.
