So far the iphone has had some of the worst user experiences of any phone I've owned. Including rotary.

@LauraGlu Also—not that this takes away from your statement—I wonder if I'd feel differently about the iPhone if I used it as a...phone.

  6. @LauraGlu you dont like itunes in general? it is a bit odd that itunes is still the main way the iphone authenticates & interfaces with macs

  7. @LauraGlu Gotta say though, once it's set up, it's a fucking dream. Especially iCloud.

  9. @jayzombie @LauraGlu that was my android experience; get a new phone, log in with Google account, all my contacts, apps and media appear.

  10. @mg I just want to copy contacts from one phone to another without signing up for any apps or services. It appears that's not an option?

  12. @LauraGlu No. Typically not an option on many phones at all except using SIM. I highly recommend just signing up for iCloud.

  13. @mg Yeah, I was spoiled by android doing that via my gmail account. No credit card needed for that!

  16. @mg Hm - it didn't auto-import my contacts last time. But I will give it a try.

  18. @timoni @LauraGlu I'm very interested if having just switched now, the worst bits you've found are new in iOS5, or long established designs.

  19. @LauraGlu @MHendric iTunes is the worst. THE WORST. I'm flabbergasted people use it voluntarily.

  20. @timoni @LauraGlu I regard iOS5 notifications as the jankiest of interfaces. But it's new, so doesn't detract from past learned experiences.

  24. @timoni @LauraGlu Ugh. I gave up and wrote off 25GB of storage in my old MobileMe account to stop juggling two of them. Works OK now though.

  26. @mwearhouse @LauraGlu Without wishing to make it worse, what's different about the Exchange clone over adding Google to regular IMAP/CalDAV?

@mwearhouse I dunno. Fighting on the internet is archived forever. Fighting in real life leaves you eligible for a Grammy after three years.

  27. @benward @mwearhouse @LauraGlu you need to use exchange to get your gmail contacts into the iphone's address book, but only mostly works

  30. @termie @mwearhouse @LauraGlu Ah, I see, Gmail has no LDAP or CardDAV API. Exchange makes sense given that limitation.
