I sat down today after seven months of not working on Stellar to work on Stellar. Specifically the transition to Twitter API v1.1.
And unless I'm an idiot (possible, because I put this off for too long), the new rate limits are gonna hose our collective shit.
Some of Stellar's functionality w/r/t Twitter was only possible because the app was whitelisted. 20000 requests/hr. New limit: 60/hr.
Not a typo. 60/hr. So, some things about Stellar are about to change. Not sure what yet.
But you prob won't be able to follow non-Stellar-user Twitter accts on Stellar (if that makes sense) e.g. can't follow @ev's faves.
But don't worry, I've heard Twitter is baking some of Stellar's features into the main product!! So there's that.
But we've all seen all this coming. Or at least I have. Apps built on APIs are constructed on shifting sands.
Twitter should pay more attn. to faving, they should bake it in. Stellar isn't an original idea. It's a good idea, implemented effectively.
So let's not piss on Twitter here. Not too hard at least. They provide a hell of a service for free that I personally love.
To be clear: Stellar is not shutting down and I'm not removing all (or probably even most) Twitter func from the site. #slowyourroll
Sorry for clogging your timelines, I really should get a blog. Over and out for now. Back when I'm less hungover and sleepy.
