    Disk failure only affected one partition. Could have lost our photo archive going back 10 years. Gulp. Oh, hello Amazon Glacier.

    @Alby so far it's fiddly and slow but cheap. :-) FYI: Arq (haystacksoftware.com/arq) seems to be the nicest way to drive S3/Glacier from a Mac

    Backup thumb drive + Dropbox Pro + Amazon Glacier should do it for now. Local RAID system is a maybe but online == immune to burglars & fire

    @davidmonro_ DVDs were disposable (can always be re-ripped), but the photo archive on the same external drive, not so much.
