Frank was an sf & thriller writer - he wrote the original of The Towering Inferno - and was also speechwriter for Harvey Milk.
I met him once, in 2008: one of the most amazing conversations of my life. _Milk_ had just finished filming, and he’d played a bit part.
He gave the most extraordinary account of what it had been like to be gay in the 50s/60s; and, by implication, how much had changed since.
I walked back from his house thru Mission Dolores Park - which I’d never visited before - and I could see the city, and happy couples, and-
-and I thought that he was someone who’d lived to see a better world. That view has always reminded me of him. insidesfrealestate.files.wordpress.com/2008/12/dolore…
