Thanks to federal court judges in the last week, the rights and safety of transgender people in the US have been seriously diminished.
If I were to go back to school, to finish my degree, I have no guarantee to equal protection under the law.
Last night's federal court ruling means my right to use the correct restroom or be recognized as my actual gender would be up for debate.
Currently, I am looking into getting a part-time job again. Because of a fed court ruling last week, my employment rights are also suspect.
Last week a federal court ruled that a funeral home was completely in the right to enforce a gendered dress code against a trans woman.
This federal court ruled that the funeral home was completely in the clear for firing her as a means of enforcing that dress code.
Granted, I live in California, one of the very few states with state-enforced protections; however, that could crumble in court, now.
We are approaching a realistic junction where rogue right-wing federal court justices could dismantle state-level trans prortections, too.
If I were, say, harassed at a workplace, and filed legislation to enforce my rights, they would be subject to being eliminated instead.
The goal of the activist right is to dismantle the rights of transgender people and ensure that we cannot exist as ourselves.
The over-reaching, unprecedented actions of right-wing justices and legislatures over the last year proves this.
Meanwhile, any organized movement to protect transgender rights is represented by a massively disabled Justice Department.
As of this morning, according to a Texas federal court judge, the Justice Department *can't do anything anymore*.
Any operations the Justice Department might plan to do in countering this are threatened by the potential election of a fascist in November.
And, make no mistake, Trump is speaking at the Family Research Council's conference this year. This is highly indicative.
The Family Research Council is one of the primary organizations fueling the activist conservative fight to strip trans people of rights.
The Family Research Council's stated policy goals on trans people are as follows. TW: transphobia
These policy goals make it clear that what we have seen in the past year is merely the beginning of the implementation of an agenda.
The goal of the activist right is to make transition impossible by twisting policy to cease recognition and make discrimination inevitable.
The FRC openly admits gender dysphoria is a mental health issue but wants to eliminate transgender peoples' right to safely seek treatment.
When prodded, this is all the activist right has to offer in alternative treatment options for transgender people.
If you think there is "nothing we can do", that we're "helpless", then you've already let them win. Awareness is key.
Talk about this. Independently, not just with RTs. Tell your friends that you support trans rights. Yeah, in real life, too.
Show people the agenda of the activist right and tell them you oppose it. Here's a link: frc.org/transgender
The activist right does not have enough power to do everything they want. We need to prove that to them.
This November, do your research. Vote for local judges and state AGs and state senators that support transgender rights.
Write a letter to your school board candidates and ask if they would affirm the rights of transgender students if pressed to do so.
We fight back from the ground up. We fight back together. Leaving trans people alone in this fight means we will lose.
