As #GhostInTheShell'17 is out I can finally properly share some of the early world design research.. Thread:
I still feel going cold neon lights & cyan-tones was a wrong choice. Original GITS is all about atmosphere, smokiness, transparencies.
It would have been AMAZING to bring in some of the coolest artists/designers/architects/performers working in the actual future-space..
Collaborations, not appropriations. Artistically, but also culturally. We all know it should have been Rinko..
Too much Hwood sci-fi is stuck with retro ideas about future. The world of actual research in science & tech space is ripe with inspiration
Cold, sterile spaces seem so passe.. Break that light through the prism, work transparencies. New conversations require new language.
Future means new materials. New materials generate new shapes. No one's really rethinking the body of the future. Technology meets biology.
Generative designs of the future. Not 80's glitches but the mad things coolest kids are playing with today. So underexplored.
& Really why we are designing futures that we are designing. What are these designs telling about us. Dystopias abound.
I want there to be magick & poetry in the future. & that's what GITS was. GITS future had poetry in it.
Even when we tell stories of the future gone wrong there can be poetry in it. I think of the song of Tachikomas in #StandaloneComplex.
